ACB 100th and AWCB 75th Anniversary Celebration |
The joint anniversary event of the the American Club of Brussels (ACB) and American Women's Club of Brussels (AWCB) was held at the US Embassy in Brussels on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. It was an unforgettable cocktail party to celebrate both clubs' special milestones!
The event, hosted by Ambassador Adler and Mrs. Adler, was held in the beautiful Whitlock Hall and adjoining atrium of their Residence. Ambassador Adler welcomed everyone to the event and spoke about the history of the clubs and the importance of both in Belgium. Both Jan Allen, who represented American Club of Brussels (ACB) President, Michael Callender, and Florence Jeannin, President of the American Women’s Club of Brussels (AWCB) spoke about the history of the two Clubs in Belgium and their activities.
Jan reminded the audience that the ACB was formally established in 1921 by American businessmen living in Belgium after WWI for social and networking purposes, as well as to foster Belgian-American relations. Since its inception, the Club has hosted many notable events, including a reception in 1927 for Charles Lindbergh after his historic NYC–Paris flight, supporting annual remembrance ceremonies at American cemeteries in Belgium, commemorating the U.S. refusal to surrender in Bastogne through its "NUTS" evenings, hosting U.S. Election Nights, and organizing the largest Thanksgiving dinners in Belgium for over 20 years! Today the club’s members are both men and women, and we also welcome people from all nationalities, thus reflecting the very international community in Brussels.
Please enjoy the photos below and thank you to all who made the event a very special night!
